I have come to really look forward to the biographies in the Generals series by Thomas Nelson for their excellent writing quality and interesting subject material on generals in the United States' past. This book tells of John Joseph Pershing, General of the Armies during World War I. Yet this amazing figure has been overshadowed by other generals in history, despite his contributions to our nation.
George Washington Carver, written by John Perry, is a great closer look at one of America’s foremost scientists. This book walks us through Carver’s life, from his difficult childhood to his success at the Tuskegee Institute. It also brings to life the specific struggles which Carver faced during his life. I enjoyed reading this biography, but would have appreciated a closer look at such an interesting man.
Biographies are generally very enjoyable reads for me; biographies of my heroes are even more enjoyable. The book Lee: a Life of Virtue, by John Perry, is one of the latter. I can honestly say that it is one of the best biographies I’ve ever read, if only for the life which it describes. As one of my heroes, Lee was a biography which I had been hoping to get my hands on.
