Sir Arthur Conan Doyle: the name usually calls to mind 221B Baker Street and it’s resident, arguably one of the most famous characters to ever grace the hallowed pages of classic literature. Yet despite the popularity of the Sherlock Holmes stories, Doyle’s favorite among all his creations was a book of quite a different nature – an epic historical narrative of the Hundred Years’ War entitled The White Company.
Yet another entertaining mystery book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes contains a lot of short mystery stories documented by Watson, Holmes' assistant. Any Sherlock Holmes mystery beats a Hardy Boys book all hollow. The plots keep you guessing the entire time but at the end you see the methods as plain as day. But I've never guessed a mystery, not in all the stories I read.
After reading all of the Hardy Boy's books when I was a little kid, I honestly say that I can see what everyone sees in Sherlock Holmes. I read The Hound of the Baskervilles today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle brilliantly weaves together different plots ending in an exciting finale.
